(Christian was actually born 6:40am EST on April 30th.  Posting a day early as I remember laboring with him. 🙂 )

This is the face of my fighter.  From the moment he was put in my arms, I knew that he was going to be strong.  I had no idea of the battles that he would be fighting in his daily life.

We came through a difficult labor together.  At times, one or the other of us wasn’t doing very well.  But we are both fighters and via an emergency c-section, my fighter was born into this world.  Once I held him, I didn’t want to put him down.  He was big.  He was healthy.  He had these HUGE paws that are forever imprinted on my mind.

It’s hard to believe that SIX years have passed since Christian came into this world.  He is still my fighter.  (Even autism’s willy grasp could not take that from him!)  He has taught me to stop and look at things in a different light (or through squinted eyes — his favorite).  He has taught me to rejoice in the smallest of accomplishments, as they are not as small as they appear.  He has taught me to understand things from a perspective that I could not have seen before.  He has taught me to anticipate every possible outcome.  He has taught me never to give up, as even the hardest of things can be accomplished through fierce determination and practice.

Christian has shown me the beautiful faith of a child, as he is still repeating his simple prayer — “Thank you, Jesus.  We love you, Jesus.  Amen.”

One verse always stands out in my mind when I think about Christian and his life: past, present, and future —

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  — Jeremiah 29:11

Happy 6th Birthday, Christian!  Mommy, Daddy, and Olivia love you!  (more than words can properly express)
