I don’t know why I’ve been pondering these two men a lot this last week, but they have certainly been in my mind as men who accepted their situations that God had placed them in and even praised God because of them…

Job had the world.  He was a successfully rich man with 10 kids, thousands of sheep & camels, hundreds of oxen & donkeys, and many servants.  The Bible says, “This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.”  God allows Satan to come and take away Job’s many blessings (as Satan claims that Job only praises God because he has SO much).  First invaders came and carried off his oxen and donkeys.  Then fire fell from the sky and burnt up the sheep.  Then more invaders came and carried off the camels.  And to top that off his children were all killed when the house they were celebrating in collapsed on top of them.  Wow!  Talk about a bad day!  But in the midst of this Job said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart.  The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.”  But that’s not all, God then allowed Satan to afflict Job with painful sores ALL over his body – to the point where he took a piece of broken pottery to scrape himself.  His wife even told him to “Curse God and die!” But Job with all of this pain and suffering replied, “Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”  What faith!  Job had nothing left and he still praised God through it all!

Then with Christmas being right upon us, I’ve been thinking about Joseph, too.  Really, Joseph was engaged to Mary who became pregnant although they hadn’t slept together.  Joseph was going to break it off until an angel appeared in a dream and told him that the baby that Mary was carrying would be the Savior of the world.  Joseph obeyed, married Mary, and then didn’t sleep with her until after she gave birth to Jesus.  What trust in God that must have taken for Joseph!  Then he traveled with a very pregnant Mary to Bethlehem so they could be counted in a census and because all the hotels were full ended up having the baby in a barn.  Wow!  And not long after that an angry king sets off to murder his son, so he has to take Mary & Jesus in the middle of the night and flee to a different country!  And I think I have it hard!  Again, wow!  What faith in God!

What great examples of how to put God first and trust Him in every situation!  I pray that I can even have half their faith!
